Important Links
The 8-Inch Drill Press is a benchtop drilling machine designed for producing accurate, perpendicular holes in wood, plastics, soft metals, and composite materials. Unlike handheld drills, the drill press provides improved precision, repeatability, and control through an adjustable worktable and selectable spindle speeds.
It is commonly used in the Hybrid Atelier for fabrication, prototyping, fixture construction, electronics enclosures, jig making, and general workshop operations.

Hazards
- Rotating spindle and chuck
- Pinch and entanglement hazards
- Flying chips and debris
- Sharp drill bits
- Hot workpieces after drilling
- Electrical hazards from damaged cords
- Noise during extended operation
Things to Avoid
- Do not inhale powder.
- Do not add large amounts directly into water without agitation.
- Do not expose container to humidity.
- Do not neutralize rapidly with concentrated base.
- Do not dispose of concentrated polymer powder down sinks.
- Do not contaminate the stock container with wet utensils.
Safety Checks
- Inspect the drill press for visible damage.
- Verify the chuck key has been removed before starting.
- Ensure the drill bit is sharp, secure, and appropriate for the material.
- Confirm the worktable is locked in position.
- Clamp or secure the workpiece using a vise or fixture.
- Select the correct spindle speed before turning on the machine.
- Verify the emergency stop or power switch is accessible.
Operational Checks
- Wear required PPE before operation.
- Keep hands away from the rotating drill bit.
- Feed the drill smoothly without forcing the cut.
- Stop the spindle completely before making adjustments.
- Remove chips using a brush, never your hands.
- Monitor for unusual vibration, excessive heat, or abnormal noise.
- Turn off the machine immediately if the bit binds or the workpiece loosens.
Cleanup
- Turn off the drill press and wait for the spindle to stop completely.
- Remove the drill bit if appropriate.
- Brush or vacuum chips from the table and base.
- Return the chuck key to its holder.
- Remove clamps and return accessories to storage.
- Leave the work area clean and organized.
