Safety Operating Procedure
MEKP (Methyl Ethyl Ketone Peroxide) is the catalyst added to polyester resins and vinyl ester resins. As the catalyst mixes with the resin, a chemical reaction occurs, creating heat which cures (hardens) the resin. Use approximately 1/2 oz per quart of resin.
Hazards
Oxidizing Material
Keep from heat and fire.
Harmful Vapor.
Causes severe burns. Harmful or Fatal if Swallowed.
Safety Checks
- Ensure that your environment is free from heat sources.
- Use only the dispenser bottle to pour catalyst.
Operational Checks
- The reaction with resin will produce some heat.
Cleanup
- Return MEKP to the flammables cabinet.
